During a one-year period from May 2004 through April 2005, I spent most of my time covering the war in Iraq as the Baghdad Staff Photographer for the Associated Press. I was usually embedded with U.S. troops, and I stopped counting after 200 combat missions. Near the end of my term, our international team of photographers — including five Iraqis — was recognized with the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography. I delivered hundreds of photographs throughout my year and a selection is published below:
